Bacon, Dr. Pepper, and... William Shatner?

Updated: Jan 18, 2023

What do these three have in common? Longevity.

First, the bacon story:

Not many people will say that eating bacon every day is the key to a long life, but the world’s oldest woman swears by it.

Susannah Mushatt Jones, 116, keeps a steady diet of bacon, eggs and grits for breakfast. A sign in her kitchen reads: “Bacon makes everything better.”

Named the world’s oldest woman by Guinness World Records in July, Jones credits her longevity to "lots of sleep," Guinness said. But her family members say she has lived a long life due to her love of family and generosity to others.

Jones was born in a small farm town near Montgomery, Ala., on July 6, 1899. She was one of 11 siblings and attended a special school for young black girls. When she graduated from high school in 1922, Jones worked full time helping family members pick crops. She left after a year to begin working as a nanny, heading north to New Jersey and eventually making her way to New York.

"She adored kids," Jones' niece, Lois Judge, told the Daily Record of her aunt though Jones never had children of her own and was married for only a few years.

Now the Dr. Pepper Story:

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Elizabeth Sullivan of Forth Worth, Texas, says she has one doctor to thank for her long life -- Dr. Pepper.

Sullivan tells KTVT she fell in love with the soft drink's trademark "23 flavors" when she was in her sixties.

"Every doctor that sees me says they’ll kill you, but they die and I don’t. So there must be a mistake somewhere," she said.

For her 104th birthday, Sullivan was surprised with a Dr. Pepper-shaped caked and a gift basket straight from the CEO of Dr. Pepper Snapple Group Inc., Larry Young

“When you live to be 104 and still can talk to nice people, you deserve some Dr. Pepper, but I never expected this,” she told KTVT.

And finallly... William Shatner. Would you believe he's... 87 years old??? And he's not slowing down either!

This video clip was done 2 years ago... when he was only 85:

My question to you: With all the medical advancements, have you made the financial preparations to prepare for YOUR longevity?
